The Dial Exit The Surrey County Cup

Dial Square crashed out of the Surrey County Cup yesterday, being second-best most in almost every department, at the Kingston Uni Sports Ground.

The Dial struggled in the early stages and couldn’t get a foothold in the game. So, it was no surprise when early pressure and dominance from Westminster resulted in them taking the lead. Will Hutton have them the lead with ease on 15 minutes and it was clear it was going to take a big effort for the away side to get back into the game.

Nothing of any threat came about and the half finished 1-0 to Westminster Casuals.
In what was a disappointing first-half, there was also the injury to Johnny Phillips which was a massive blow to the team, after just 6 minutes in. It was certainly a 45 minutes to forget.

The second-half was slightly better. Aidan Phillips was a stand out performer in the middle of the park, but even he couldn’t help muster up many chances for the team. As the team battled hard to try and get a goal, they left themselves open and the game was put to bed with 20 minutes remaining, when Rhys Wood was put through one on one with Zach, making no mistake with the finish.

It stayed 2-0 until the end and although there was some fight being shown until the final whistle, it didn’t mask the inept display overall and there is certainly lots for the team to work on, to start turning things around.
