Brown: make mine a double

Dial travel to local rivals Addlestone this Saturday (12 Oct.) in a bid to extend their advantage at the top of the Surrey Premier County Football League. 2pm k.o.

With five wins from their previous five league fixtures, Dial are not short of confidence; however, boss Steve Brown knows that football is often down to small margins, which can tip the result in either direction.

And having only narrowly beaten Addlestone 2-1 at Alwyns Lane less than four weeks ago, Brown is acutely aware that the hosts have a propensity to get men behind the ball and counterattack at speed.

Despite pushing Dial hard last month, The Stones have had the wind taken out of their sails after suffering three defeats on the spin against Banstead Rovers (4-2), Hersham (2-1) and Cranleigh (1-0) last Saturday (5 Oct.).

However, Brown knows that The Stones' league position belies their potential. They will not sit back and allow Dial to dictate play on home soil in their bid for a top-five finish.

Brown is hoping to have the majority of his squad available for the trip to Jubilee High School, with midfielder Aidan Doran and defender Louie Rogers the only players expected to be unavailable. Meanwhile, influential midfielder Chad Goulter has re-signed for Isthmian Football League South-Central side Ascot United, and played in the 2-2 draw against Hayes & Yeading in midweek.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Thursday (10 Oct), Brown said: "We had a great training session on Tuesday, which has prepared the boys well for a big weekend.

"I'm expecting a battle against Addlestone; the players know that they will need to dig deep on what will most likely be a sticky pitch after all the rain we've had. League positions go out of the window when we get to 2pm.

"We will need to be much more clinical in front of goal than we were the last time we played them. We had plenty of chances, especially in the first half, but we didn't capitalise on our pressure and, ultimately, it meant the game was a lot closer than it should have been.

"We know Addlestone will work hard and make things difficult for us, but we have a plan, and if we execute that plan to good effect, hopefully it will return three points," he added.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Jubilee High School, a travel guide is available here. There is no admission charge for this fixture.
