DIAL'S NEXT CHALLENGE, CRICKET?

DIAL'S NEXT CHALLENGE, CRICKET?

Marc Brewer14 Dec - 05:02

Cup match unlikely to be a walk in the park

Dial boss Steve Brown will be hoping his side can bounce back to winning ways when they travel to Keens Park Rangers today (14 Dec) in the first round of the Premier Challenge (League) Cup.

It will be Dial's first match in two weeks after losing 4-2 on penalties against Bagshot in second round of the Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate Cup last month.

Like with Bagshot, it will be the third encounter between Dial and Keens Park Rangers in as many months, with Dial winning both league matches and looking to advance in the league cup at Pyrford Cricket Club ground.

However, with Rangers languishing at the wrong end of the Surrey Premier County Football League table, and having also been eliminated from the county cup, the hosts will feel that its all to play for to keep their season alive.

Not for the first time this season, Dial will be forced to do it the hard way, with Charlie Marshall, Aidan Doran, Adam Bicknell, Ben Vassell, Finley Rose-Davies, Noel Fortune and goalkeeper Andy Rider all unavailable for the trip to south Woking. However, Brown is pleased to welcome Jordan Carter and talisman Adam Aziz back into the squad after a four-week absence. Matt Bunyan and Arnie Linturn are also expected to feature to help shore up the backline.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Thursday, Brown said: "We have a lot of players missing this weekend, but I am happy with the squad that we have.

"We will need to play much better than we did against Bagshot [in the county cup] where our decision making in the final third let us down. I'm expecting a difficult game against Keens Park [Rangers], so we will need to defend well and take our chances," he added.

In the event that both teams are level after 90 minutes, the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Pyrford Cricket Club ground, a travel guide is available here. There is no admission charge for this fixture.
