Selection woes eased ahead of Addlestone visit

Dial host local rivals Addlestone under the lights this evening (18 Sept) in the Surrey Premier County Football League. 7:45pm k.o.

Buoyed by back-to-back wins against Bagshot (2-0) and AFC Cubo (3-1), Steve Brown's side could go top of the table if they manage to see-off The Stones on home soil.

The last time the two sides met was in July 2022 in a pre-season friendly at Jubilee High School, which Dial won 2-0. Back then, Addlestone were known as Lyne.

However, the visitors will be no pushover, having won one, drawn two and lost one (1-0 v leaders CB Hounslow & Abbot) of their opening four league fixtures.

Under the dual chairmanship and managerial guidance Nigel Edgecombe, The Stones will be hoping to improve on their 11th-place finish last season and build on their 1-0 home win over Bagshot.

Meanwhile, Brown is pleased to have captain Will Neville, Louie Rogers, Dylan Averiss, Ben Vassell, Adam Bicknell and Noel Fortune back in contention, with James Vass the only absentee from Saturday's win in west London.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com yesterday [Tuesday], Brown said: "I was pleased with how we played against AFC Cubo, especially with so many players out. However, Addlestone will present a different challenge; they only lost 1-0 to CB Hounslow [& Abbots], so I'm sure they will be resilient in all areas.

"Playing under the lights at Alwyns Lane creates a nice spectacle; however, we need to be on it from the first whistle. And although we will be without Vassey [James Vass], it's good to have a number of the other lads back," he added.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground. You can plan your journey here.

For those travelling by car, Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.
