Westminster contingent to visit Alwyns Lane

Dial turn their attention away from league action this afternoon (2 Nov) when Steve Brown's side host Westminster Casuals at Alwyns Lane in the first round of the Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate Cup (2pm k.o,).

It will be an opportunity for Dial to make a post-budget footballing statement on the pitch after Casuals were the last side to beat them [2-0] in the county cup at Kingston University Sports Ground almost two years ago.

Since then, Dial have gained successive promotions from step 9 to step 7, while Casuals are riding high at step 8 in the Surrey South East Combination League Division One, having only lost once in seven league and cup matches.

Similarly, Dial are unbeaten in their last eight following last Saturday's unorthodox 7-3 win away at Keens Park Rangers. However, Brown knows that his side will need to up their game considerably to go at least one-stage further in this year's county cup after unknowingly falling foul of the rulebook in last season.

Like so many times this season already, Dial will be stripped of available resources, with captain Will Neville, James Vass, Adam Sewell, Charlie Marshall and Chad Goulter all expected to be unavailable for the visit of Casuals. It could pave the way for Brown and Matt Bunyan to return to the starting line-up. Midfielder Aidan Doran is also expected to be available again after making his debut against Battersea Ironsides in September.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com ahead of the fixture, Brown said: "It's great to be back at home and to have a break from league action.

"After last weekend's showing, the players are keen to give a better account of themselves and I was encouraged by the shift they put in training this week, so I'm expecting a much better performance. They'll need to, as Westminster are a good side so we will need to be at it from the first whistle or we'll get turned over," he added.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground. You can plan your journey here.

For those travelling by car, Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.
