Dial boss wants leaders to finish on a high

Dial play host to Worplesdon Phoenix at Alwyns Lane this evening (16 April 2024) in the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) Premier Division. 7:30pm k.o.

A win for Steve Brown’s side will see them reinstate their 19-point lead over AFC Spelthorne Sports at the top of the table after The Thornes beat Milford & Witley 4-1 away at the weekend.

The last time Dial played Phoenix was back on 28 October 2023 at The Memorial Ground, which saw debutant Jordan Carter score twice in a 4-0 win over the Guildford-based side.

Since then, Phoenix have found the net just seven times in 10 league games and have only won one of their previous five league games. However, a 1-0 away over Lightwater United on Saturday (13 April) could indicate that Sean Crooke's side have turned a corner as they push for a mid-table finish.

Meanwhile, Dial need just two league goals to reach the 100-goal milestone, which would be 13 short of Godalming & Farncombe Athletic’s emphatic 113-goal tally (in 22 games) during their 2014-15 Premier Division campaign.

Brown is expected to have Jordan Carter, Louie Rogers, James Vass and Andy Rider back in contention for the visit of the Phoenix after all four were unavailable during the 3-2 win over Lightwater United last Thursday. However, Finley Rose-Davies remains doubtful.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Monday, Brown said: “I’m hoping the lads will show more quality on the ball against Worplesdon than they did against Lightwater and finish strong in the last few games.

“I’m expecting a physical encounter, so we will need to be at our best to get something from the game. We should be aiming to win our remaining three league games to finish off the second half of the season unbeaten,” added Brown

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground (map). Please check South Western Railway’s live timetable here prior to departure.

For those travelling by car, Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.
